There are a number of different panel types which are used in the manufacture of PC monitors. Each one has its advantages & disadvantages; here we explain the most common types of PC monitor panels.
TN
The most common type of panel used in PC monitors is the TN panel. It is also the most well-established panel type in PC monitor manufacture. One reason for their popularity amongst manufacturers is that they are cheap to produce. Which means the overall cost of the monitor is more competitive. TN panel monitors usually have a faster response time which can make them ideal for uses such as gaming where quick reaction time is important.
IPS
The main benefit of IPS panel monitors is their ability to reproduce better colours & they also have much wider viewing angles. IPS panels are popular amongst graphics designers & photographers as they produce more accurate colours & therefore a more accurate image. The disadvantages of these panels are that they usually will have slower response times & are more expensive to manufacture which increases the overall cost of the monitor. Newer S-IPS panels aim to reduce the response times of current IPS panels.
VA
VA panels are manufacturers attempt to combine the benefits of TN panels with that of IPS panels. The technology behind VA panels aims to produce fast response times of TA panels combined with the better colour reproduction of the IPS panels.
