What is adaptive sync?

Adaptive sync is technology to reduce frame rate stuttering and screen tearing.

Frame rate stuttering tends to occur when frame rates are low, & screen tearing when the frame rates are high. Nvidia and AMD have two differing solutions to this problem. Together they're called adaptive sync (alternatively known as dynamic refresh rates). FreeSync is an AMD technology & G-Sync is an Nvidia technology.
